John McCarthy FCA, AITI, Dip. IFRS , Dip. Insolvency, Certificate in UK and Irish GAAP

John McCarthy is a regular speaker on data protection, GDPR, compliance, anti-money laundering (AML) reviews and training, audit and investment business cold and hot file reviews and audit/accounting technical matters, as well as practice management and succession planning.He started John McCarthy Consulting Ltd. in 2009.

John has extensive experience in the provision of technical and strategic support to practicing accountants and credit unions in Ireland. He has spoken at seminars and conferences for Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (ICPAI), for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Members in Practice Committee in Ireland, CCH Wolters Kluwer in the UK and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

He has contributed articles entitled ‘Bill What You’re Worth’ and ‘Managing a Practice in a Recession’ to ‘Accountancy Ireland’ (Chartered Accountants Ireland magazine) and on ‘Audit Planning’ to ‘Accountancy Plus’ (ICPAI magazine) and on ‘Succession Planning in Accounting Firms’ to the ACCA magazine ‘Accounting and Business’. John is also a member of the Audit and Assurance Committee of Chartered Accountants Ireland.

John has presented courses on IFRS to the Lithuanian Chamber of Auditors and has recorded webinars for CCH Wolters Kluwer UK. He is also a regular speaker for credit unions on their anti-money laundering responsibilities. He is a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

John was Director of Professional Standards at a ‘Top 5’ accounting firm until 2009. He was responsible for the regulatory, compliance and training areas of the organisation, looking after more than 400 accountants and partners.

Prior to this, he spent nine years with Chartered Accountants Ireland as their Senior Practice Consultant, working with over 1,000 chartered accountancy practices on regulatory, technical and management issues. He also helped create and author their very popular newsletter for practitioners called ‘Practice Matters’.

In the mid-1990s, John ran his own practice in Dublin.
